Does Mueller Want Impeachment Case? Investigation Shifts From Campaign to Obstruction of Justice

by Margaret Marie

A new report from Axios may reveal a pattern of political calculations made by special counsel investigator Robert Mueller. The report suggests that his probe has changed its focus from possible Trump campaign collusion with Russia to possible obstruction of justice in the wake of FBI Director James Comey and national security adviser Michael Flynn being fired by the administration. According to Axios, the administration is in talks with the Mueller team to arrange an interview with President Trump “within the next few weeks.” The White House also issued a statement confirming the President is not looking to fire Mueller.

In adding these post-election events to his investigation on “Russian collusion,” Mueller is confirming what many conservatives have suspected from the beginning of the “probe.” Conservative Review noted that LevinTV host Mark Levin “has long argued that the Mueller probe is not legitimately investigating Russian collusion but is instead trying to build a case to impeach the president.” Levin has predicted that the Mueller probe will start using “obstruction of justice” as the foundation of a case to impeach President Trump if Democrats regain control of Congress in 2018. This past summer, Levin summarized in three points on the Conservative Review blog why such a case against the President would be ludicrous.

His first point was that there is no evidence to justify an investigation into obstruction. His second was that a President cannot constitutionally be charged with it. Lastly, Levin noted that the basic elements proving he is guilty of it “are not present,” and that such an investigation would be a patently obvious political stunt. Levin pointed out that among the countless leaks flowing out of the White House, there has been “not one leak” that could be seen as proof of obstruction of justice.
